Outline and source locations

How AITEZA reads long documents by their outline, where a source sits in its document and how to check quoted wording.

On this page

When AITEZA processes a file, it recognises its outline: title, parts, chapters, sections, paragraphs (§), appendices and tables, each with the page it starts on. AITEZA uses this outline when answering and shows it to you in the document view and in the source references.

Reading long documents by section

When you ask about a specific part of a long document, AITEZA first reads its outline and then only the sections your question needs, instead of paging through the whole document. This works especially well with laws, standards, contracts, manuals and reports.

Examples:

  • “What does § 16 of BetrSichV.pdf regulate?”
  • “Summarise Annex 2 Section 2 of BetrSichV.pdf.”
  • “Which requirements are listed in chapter 4.1 of the manual?”

Answers about single sections are faster and need far less computing effort. For questions whose answer may be anywhere in the document, AITEZA still searches the whole content.

Where a source was found

Below an answer, every source from a file shows where the passage is in the document next to the file name, for example “BetrSichV.pdf (§ 16, p. 14)”. Numbered sections appear with their number, others with their shortened title. On narrow screens the section is shortened, the page always stays visible.

When you hover over a source reference in the answer text, the preview shows the full path, such as “Annex 2 › Section 2 › 4. Recurring inspections of lift systems”, and the cited text. Clicking the source opens the file at that passage.

Checking quoted wording

When AITEZA quotes a passage word for word, the preview compares the wording with the cited passage. Spaces, upper and lower case, punctuation and hyphenation do not matter, and a quote shortened with “…” counts if every part is in the passage. If AITEZA does not find the wording there, the preview says Wording not found in the cited passage. Check the statement in the document before you use it further.

Outline in the document view

When you open a file in a dataroom or from a source reference, the Show outline button next to the search shows the document’s headings with their page. Click an entry to close the outline and jump to that heading. Use the same button or start a new search to hide the outline again.

The button only appears for documents with at least two headings.
